The Sun isn’t silent. It rings.
Its surface constantly rises, falls, and vibrates as pressure waves move through its interior. We can’t hear those waves through space, but scientists can measure them—and shift them into the range of human hearing.
The result is the closest thing we have to listening to a star.

NASA’s “Sounds of the Sun” explains that scientists measured the Sun’s vibrations with the ESA/NASA SOHO observatory, converted the data into audible sound, and use those oscillations to study movement inside the Sun. It also includes the actual downloadable audio.
